During our visit to Mr. & Mrs. Chine bLog Sr. in March, they suggested we check into The Apprenticeshop in Rockland. The organization is what you might guess, with us calling it out: a wooden boatbuilding training organization focused on traditional craft. One of the apprentices gave us a nice tour around, showing us a fellow building a “peapod” (it had a straight stern stem, not like any peapod we know) and then her Mackinaw boat, just getting going on planking.
Upstairs there were some finished boats of unclear origin. They were, of course, lovely, but the featured one was a drop-dead gorgeous sailing canoe that we loved, more than a little bit. Great visit!
