Nick Shade is the man behind Guillemot Kayaks, producer of some of the nicer-looking wooden kayaks around. I mentioned Nick via his book, The Strip-Built Sea Kayak, a couple months back. Most of Nick’s stuff is strip built, and he seems to do nice work. Apparently one of his boats is in the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
At very least his designs are gorgeous:
He has clearly grasped the original craft’s design principles and is using available technology to bring that look into the present. Kudos!
I was interested to see Nick branching out beyond kayaks too. He has an Adirondack Guide Boat (to be honest, I’ve seen better) and various flavors of play-boats. Glad to see he is successfully growing his franchise.
